The Myth of the Good Mom

The Myth of the Good Mom

Somedays, it seems like we get bombarded with messages about how you must do this or have  that in order to be a "good" mom. Frankly, I am tired of it. Like way over it. Maintaining a perfectly tidy home does not make you the best parent. Preparing a gorgeous and perfectly balanced meal each night isn't going to do it either (although you are more than welcome to come to my house and try). Enrolling your child in every single extra curricular under the sun doesn't make you the best mom. Dressing your child in the freshest fashions is completely adorable, but doesn't make you good either. Ensuring that everything is organic, fairly traded, BPA free and hormone free is awesome but again, not the key to being a good mom.

Being present with your child makes you a truly good mom. Loving your child makes you good. Taking care of your needs, both physical and emotional, makes you a rockstar mama. The reality is that we are all just doing the best that we can with what we've been given. Some days, you hit this parenting thing out of the park and other days, you barely slide by. It's ok. Parenting is not a competition. It's not a race. YOU ARE A GOOD MOM but it's not entirely because of what you do or don't do. It's because of who you are and how fiercely you love. It's because you care deeply and give it all you've got.

I am one helluva good mom (repeat until you believe).
