Getting Out of The Funk

Getting Out of The Funk

All last week, I was in quite the funk and for no apparent reason, though the weeks leading up to that one had been particularly intense. I noticed that even though things had evened out, I was having a tough time moving out of the " this sh**  is hard" mode, which only perpetuated the funk. I needed to clear my energy and I needed to do it fast. All along the way, I did yoga and meditated (my go to mood enhancers) so I knew that it was time to pull out the big guns. This past weekend, I hit reset and swept away the staleness of lingering emotions. The following is what I did:

  • Smudge: This ancient practice is often described as an energy shower and it's so true! Burn a bundle of white sage (typically purchased from a health food store wrapped in a white string like shown above) and wave it around the corners of a room or over your body. The smell is quite herbal, just as a heads up! When I smudge, I visualize the smoke clearing away negative energy and clearing the path for fresh vibes.
  • Clean + Organize: For me, physical clutter leads directly to mental clutter. I tackled the bathroom while my husband got at the kitchen. It felt so good to do a deep clean and organize session. I now walk into the bathroom and smile rather than walk in and shutter.
  • Get rid of stuff: Man, I can accumulate stuff and have some pack rat tendencies when it comes to my closet (but I loved this five years ago and it might come back in style someday). This weekend, I forced myself to get rid of items that I don't wear and haven't in years. Closet purge, for the win.
  • Fresh air: I was outside as much as possible from walking to the farmer's market with a friend to going for a run to doing some quality porch sitting. The fresh air always works wonders for me.

My funk didn't miraculously disappear but it did slowly dissipate over the course of two days. These are some techniques that work for me. Your turn! Work are you go to ways to get out of the funk?
