Glow: Legs up the Wall

Glow: Legs up the Wall

A solid night's rest is a great goal and I truly hope it happens for you often. A good night's sleep helps to increase focus, productivity and overall happiness (to merely name a few benefits). We all know this. We've been told, more than once, but it just doesn't always happen. The reality is that many mamas, myself included, aren't always able to achieve the coveted 8 hours of sleep the world tells us we need. Once the kids are asleep, the to do list seems to only grow and grow. Sometimes, sleep is interrupted by a sick child or a nightmare and cuddles are in order. This just happens and it can leave a mama feeling a bit zombie like in the morning. I don't have a magic wand that will instantly do the dishes or pack lunches, but I do have a seemingly magical yoga pose that will help your body achieve deep rest in just ten minutes.

Legs up the wall pose is so simple and so effective. Merely scoot your booty against a wall or sturdy surface and extend your legs in the air and against the surface. Stretch your arms wide at your side and allow the blood flow to reverse in your body. Yogi Bhajan says that 15 minutes spent in this pose or shoulder stand is equal to 2 hours of rest. It's that deeply restorative. I like to practice this pose with the lights off, with a lavender eye pillow on and my legs draped over my bed. It's amazing.

Practice this pose and feel refreshed and serenely energized. Practice this pose when sleep is elusive yet sorely needed. It's not a long term fix but this pose will allow your body to achieve deep rest in just a few minutes. I get that this all might sound like a gimmick or some bad infomercial offering a cheap trick at a high price tag but give it a shot. Your tired soul will thank you and there is no purchase necessary!
